Flashback: 2007 Southeast Asian Games in Nakhon Ratchasima, Thailand

Twelve years before the country hosted the 30th Southeast Asian Games in New Clark City, the 24th Southeast Asian Games in Nakhon Ratchasima, Thailand was the biggest news stories of the decade after 2005 Southeast Asian Games in Manila, the Second EDSA Revolution that peacefully overthrew the government of Joseph Estrada, the thirteenth President of the Philippines was resigned and was succeeded by his Vice-President, Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo, who was sworn into office by then-Chief Justice Hilario Davide Jr. at around noon on January 20, 2001, several hours before Estrada fled MalacaƱang Palace, World Youth Day 1995 that the closing Mass, held at Quirino Grandstand, Rizal Park attended by more than 5 million people and 1992 Summer Olympics in Barcelona, Spain.

On November 27, 2005, the 23rd Southeast Asian Games was opened at the Quirino Grandstand, Rizal Park, Manila.

On December 5, 2005, the 23rd Southeast Asian Games in Manila was closed. The flame of the games' cauldron was extinguished and the Federation flag was lowered. The final medal tally was led by host country, close to 112 gold medals.

Estrada was later found guilty of plunder. Sentenced to up to 40 years in prison on September 12, 2007.

On October 19, an explosion in Glorietta 2 left eleven people dead and injured more than a hundred. Initially, authorities said that it was caused by a liquefied petroleum gas explosion at a restaurant, but later began investigating the possibility that the explosion may have been a C-4 bomb.

President Macapagal-Arroyo pardoned Estrada on October 26, 2007.

On the morning of November 29, 2007, a group of soldiers led by Brig. Gen. Danilo Lim, Senator Antonio Trillanes IV, Captain Nicanor Faeldon and Capt. Gary Alejano, along with 30 others, walked out of their hearing for the 2003 Oakwood Mutiny at the Makati Regional Trial Court (RTC) and went to the hotel.

On December 6, 2007 the 24th Southeast Asian Games was opened with a opening ceremony at the 80th birthday stadium in Nakhon Ratchasima, Thailand.

The country has a delegation of 620 athletes, who participated in 41 different events.

However, 4-time swimming gold medalist Miguel Molina was named the Most Valuable Male Player of the 2007 SEA Games.

Aside from Molina is no other than De La Salle University (DLSU) Green Tankers and Philippine Columbian Association (PCA) Stingrays member and 2007 UAAP Swimming Championship Men's Division MVP Ernest Lorenzo "Enchong" Dee in lane 8 of men's 100-meter butterfly finals last Sunday, December 9, 2007.

Besides Molina and Dee is fellow DLSU Green Tanker turned Makati Skipjacks Swimming Club member Johansen Benedict "Johan" Aguilar in men's 200-meter backstroke heats and finals last December 7, 2007.

A day after the Cobra Ironman 70.3 race in Cebu

Celebrities Castillo, Atienza, Paraiso to compete in ironman race

CEBU CITY, Philippines — A few showbiz celebrities will compete in the Regent Aguila Ironman 70.3 race that will start in less than 48 hours.

According to Sunrise Events Inc., Paul Jake Castillo, Kim Atienza, and Bubbles Paraiso are part of this year’s official race roster.

Castillo will be part of the 35 to 39 years old age bracket.

The Cebuano actor updated his fans on his Instagram account through posting photos with Cebu City Rider Omega Triathlon Team.

Ironman 70.3 is a swim-bike-run race with more than 2,000 athletes around the world are joining.

Castillo made a name in the show business industry when he joined “Pinoy Big Brother: Double Up” in 2009 where he finished second place.

He appeared in several films like “Para sa Hopeless Romantic” (2015) and “No Other Woman” (2011).

In 2016, the Cebuano actor is married to Kapamilya actress Kaye Abad.

For Atienza, he is in the official roster for  50 to 54 years old age bracket.

The “Matanglawin” host shared to his Instagram followers that he already arrived in a private resort in Lapu-Lapu City.

“Cebu #Ironman703 number 8 here we go! Thank you for the opportunity to swim, bike, and run dear Lord,” he said on his Instagram posts.

Among the photos he shared are his bike, wristband, cap, and Ironman 70.3 body marking.

Just like Atienza, Paraiso also shared an update to her fans as she got 1407 for her body marking.

Paraiso arrived in Cebu on August 9, Friday together with show business personality Raymond Guiterrez. 

“Eternally grateful for the privilege to challenge myself and test out the fitness once again in this weekend’s @aguilam703ph. Best of mechanical luck,” she said.

Paraiso is an actress who appeared in television series like “Pangako Sa ‘Yo”, “Legacy”, “Captain Barbell”, and “Pahiram ng Isang Ina.”
