The University Athletic Association of the Philippines will remain a Kapamilya for another full decade.
ABS-CBN and the country's premier collegiate league formally inked another 5-year deal Wednesday to continue the partnership that molded varsity players into stars and household names.
ABS-CBN President and CEO Carlo Katigbak together with UAAP president Nilo Ocampo of Season 81 host National University and the league’s Board members led the contract signing held at Sofitel Philippine Plaza.
"ABS-CBN did its part in making the different sporting events really exciting and accessible to the millions of UAAP fans not only throughout the Philippines but elsewhere in the world," said league president Mateo.
The new contract will be effective when the Ateneo de Manila University hosts Season 82.
ABS-CBN started airing UAAP events 19 years ago and the league got a serious shot in the arm on its growth, promotion and reach through comprehensive broadcast.
Part of the extension will have the full commitment of ABS-CBN to feature other sports aside from the popular basketball and volleyball through different platforms. The UAAP has 15 sports disciplines in the men’s, women’s and high school divisions.
“ABS-CBN will be increasing the coverage of the games that we will have. Not just for basketball pati na rin ang women’s volleyball, as you know is doing very well, men’s volleyball and pati na rin ang football,” said March Ventosa, head of ABS-CBN Narrowcast.
“We will keep exploring their game lineup to see which of the sports are worth full coverage,” he added.
ABS-CBN through its sports channel S&A 23 and S&A HD will again be the home of UAAP while some games will be aired on ABS-CBN Channel 2.
All televised games will also be available via live streaming at sports.abs-cbn.com.
