Pros banner Sun Life 5150 Triathlon competitors

Four professional triathletes banner the Sun Life 5150 Triathlon Cebu set on April 28 at the City of Naga Boardwalk.

Australian stalwarts Sam Betten, Dan Brown and Mitch Robins, and Guam standout Manami Iijima will vie for the top finish and the $10,000 prize in the 1.5-kilometer swim-40km bike-21km run race.

Sun Life will parade its Tri-Team in the relay event led by actor-triathlete and brand ambassador Piolo Pascual. Pascual, who will see action in the bike leg, is teamed up with Jan Michael Chiu (swim) and Toniel Ty (run).

Pascual’s team will join the relay event of the Alveo Ironman 70.3 Davao on Sunday at the Azuela Cove here in Davao City.

Other celebrities expected to grace the event are Pascual’s son IƱigo, Enchong Dee, Matteo Guidicelli, Gerald Anderson, Jake Cuenca, Ivan Carapiet, Paul Jake Castillo, Isabelle Daza, Kim Chiu, Solenn Heussaff and brother Erwan, Dyan Castillejo, Kim Atienza, Gretchen Fullido, Ivan Mayrina and Raffy Tima.

Sunrise Events Inc. general manager Princess Galura said that the 5150 event is open to all interested athletes.

“We at Sun Life and Sunrise try to make people be aware of their health whatever their age, ability and skill level. It’s all inclusive,” said Galura in a news conference at the Seda Abreeza.

Galuria said that perennial racers also have chance to best the pros as the 5150 event follows the Olympic distance wherein Filipino athletes shone in the last two editions of the Southeast Asian Games.

The Sun Life 5150 Cebu was launched last March 5. It will traverse the City of Naga, Minglanilla and Talisay City.

After the Cebu leg, the Sun Life 5150 will move to Davao City on July 7 in a yet to be undetermined venue.
