Milo behind SEA Games gold medal winners

Milo, a long-time supporter of RP sports, again rallied behind Team Philippines, which ended its 10-day campaign in the SEA Games in Laos with 124 medals, including 38 golds.

“Milo has always been a big part of this special event. It is a source of pride and privilege to support our local athletes to their victory,” said Nestlé AVP and Milo sports events executive Pat Goc-ong.

“Milo knows the importance of raising awareness about the values and benefits of sports to Filipinos, especially among the youth, which is why we remain one of the strongest supporters of the SEA Games,” said Nestlé AVP and Milo consumer marketing manager Stephanie Toh-Sy.

Through the years, Milo has played a big role in helping build the country’s champions. Its numerous and prevalent sports events, such as the Milo-sponsored Summer Sports Clinics, BEST Center, Milo Little Olympics, and the National Milo Marathon, are noted for giving Milo the honor of consistently discovering and nurturing the country’s future sports champions.

In fact, some of the country’s past and current sports heroes have, at some point, been associated with Milo. They include swimming stalwarts Miguel Molina, Ferdinand Frigiliana, Ernest Lorenzo Dee, Johansen Benedict Aguilar, Michael Christian Advincula, Ambrose Raymund Agustin, McTracy John Alindogan, Lexter Angelo Alcantara, Miko Alivia, Fahad Alkhaldi, Donn Mitchell Almera, Lorenzo Ampil, Miguel Blaise Ampil, Elyjah Avila, Hamed Afshin Azar, Enrique Miguel Baniqued, Bryce Dyllan Barraza, Efren Bartolome III, Alfonso Jose Bautista, Diether Bautista, Pierce Jerald Beltran, Nicolo Carlo Bengzon, Gerard Daniel Berino, Arthur Reign Bondoc, Ben Matthew Calisin, Benedict Campos, Nikko Michael Cao Hok, Martin Alden Carandang, Joshua Ching, Alexander Lawrence Chu, Jonquille Wesley Chua, Skyler Claveria, Bendrick Co, Bervyn Co, Cole Co, Joseph Benjamin Cruz, Peter Dean Cyrus, Aldrich Cu, Julian de Borja, Jules Raphael Danting, Joshua Desamero, Jason Ryan Difuntorum, Adrian Thomas Dionisio, Charles Gerson Diu, Christan Raphael Domingo, Girroh Dones,

Molina leads RP tankers gold bid

VIENTIANE – Miguel Molina, at 25 way past his prime by the standards of the sport, tries one last fling at glory as he leads the country’s quest for gold medals in the medal-rich sport at the start of swimming competitions in the Southeast Asian Games tomorrow at the National Sports Complex.

Seven of the 32 gold medals are at stake on opening day. Molina stakes his title in the 200m individual medley and will team up with 15-year-old Jessie Khing Lacuna, Robert Walsh and Charles Walker in the 4x200m relay.

The heats will be held at 9 a.m. while the finals are set at 6 p.m.

“We have a very good chance in the 400-m IM with Molina and the 4x200-m relay, although medyo dehado tayo doon dahil malakas ‘yung team ng Singapore,” said team manager Pinky Brosas.

“But the boys are feeling good. So we’ll see,” added Brosas.

The 25-year old Molina, a product of the University of California-Berkeley, won four gold medals during the 2007 SEA Games in Nakhon Ratchasima, Thailand to emerge as the Best Male Athlete of the meet.

Ltd, National Broadcasting Service of Thailand (NBT), TPBS, Channel 7, Channel 5, VTC Digital-Vietnam, VTV, TOT Co. Ltd. at CAT Telecom Co. Ltd.

(Russell Cadayona)

Inquirer Lifestyle Series: Fitness.Fashion with Samsung 1st Anniversary (2009)

A year after the fashion show was held at the Rigodon Ballroom of the Peninsula Manila in Makati City when it drew guests who cut across the fields of fashion, business and commerce, arts, media and entertainment.

With the support of HSBC and Peninsula, the show had 12 sought-after designers melding their creations with the latest brand collections: Kipling with Vic Barba; Fila with Lulu Tan-Gan; Nike Golf with Anthony Nocom; Speedo with Louis Claparols; Adidas with Patrice Ramos-Diaz and Rhett Eala; Marks & Spencer with Arcy Gayatin; Aigle and Oxbow with Rajo Laurel; Bench with Joey Samson; and Puma with Ivarluski Aseron and Randy Ortiz.

On her 76th birthday, former president Corazon Aquino, who was battling late stage colon cancer, was the picture of serenity.

“I have lived a full life, I cannot complain,” she calmly told her children Ballsy Cruz, Pinky Abellada, then Sen. Noynoy Aquino, Viel Dee and Kris Aquino. They heard mass in the chapel of a convent along Estrella Street in Makati and then had lunch of pan-fried goose liver salad and spinach mushroom souffle at Chef Jessie’s in Rockwell. For dessert, Cory had a special birthday treat: her favorite dessert White Chocolate Grand Marnier Mousse.

Her daughter Viel believes the spiritual backbone of their mother, who passed away seven months after her 76th birthday, was the source of her serenity. “Of all of us, I’d say that I’m the calmest. I believe I got this from Mom, maybe because I saw in her that with faith, we are able to overcome our trials,” says Viel.
